The effect of microbubbles on measurements of concentration and particle size distribution of suspended sediment using ultrasonic wave

(in English) Recently attention has been drawn to methods for measuring the suspended sediment concentration and the particle size distribution in rivers using an ultrasonic attenuation spectrometer. Generally degassed water is used in the measurements in laboratory experiments because ultrasonic wave attenuation in bubbly water is large. However, since river water contains microbubbles, we must measure suspended sediment concentration and particle size distribution after evaluating the attenuation of ultrasonic waves by microbubbles.In this study we measured the suspended sediment concentration and particle size distribution during flood using the ultrasonic attenuation spectrometer and verified the effect of microbubbles attenuation on measurements.
