[Invited Talk] A New Development in Message-Passing Demodulation: Expectation Propagation
Keigo Takeuchi (TUT) IT2017-97 SIP2017-105 RCS2017-311
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Expectation propagation (EP) is reviewed as a new demodulation scheme based on message passing in massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. An algorithm---called ``EP'' in this paper---was originally proposed by Opper and Winther in 2005. Recently, equivalent algorithms have been re-discovered in the field of wireless communications and of compressed sensing. EP has a good convergence property for a wider class of channel matrices than conventional approximate message passing (AMP) based on belief propagation, while EP results in higher complexity. In this paper, we start with parallel interference cancellation (PIC) well known in communications, and clarify important parts of message updates in AMP and EP. Furthermore, we present numerical comparisons in performance between AMP and EP.
