[Invited Talk] Contactless measurement of sound pressure distribution using laser interferometer -- an overview and recent developments --

(in English) Although sound pressure is usually measured by microphones, they inherit some unavoidable physical limitations in principle because microphones must be placed within the sound field to be measured, which causes disturbance of the field and results in measurement error. In contrast, such limitations can be avoided if a measurement method, which does not require placement of any equipment inside the sound field, is realized. One methodology for realizing that is the optical methods which have been studied in various contexts of acoustics. The mainstream of the research on optical sound visualization/measurement has been focusing on ultrasonic sound and shock waves. On the other hand, based upon recent developments, it is becoming possible to quantitatively observe an audible sound field in air without scanning. That is, some sound fields whose measurement was not possible before are becoming measurable by the new technology. In this paper, an overview of the history and principle of the optical sound measurement is presented, and a part of the recent developments achieved by the authors are introduced with the corresponding references.
