This paper proposes a design method for high-order circular QAM constellation which is robust for time-varying phase noise. We assume the application of partial Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) coding with double Gray mapping and collaborative LDPC decoding which are practical methods for high-rate LDPC code. In the proposed design method, we design the high-order circular QAM constellation based mainly on a variety of the minimum Euclidean distances between each signal point and the neighboring signal points. In this paper, we describe the proposed design method and proposed the circular 1024QAM constellation comprising 16 points x 2 rings + 32 points x 1 ring + 64 points x 15 rings. Computer simulation results show the validity of the proposed design method. We also show that the proposed circular 1024QAM constellation improves the required received signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) at the bit error rate of 10-6 by approximately 0.2 – 0.5 dB compared to rectangular 1024QAM in AWGN channel with time-varying phase noise. |
