To ensure stable distribution of video streams through data networks in the order of over ten gigabits per second (Gbps), the transmission status was monitored in real-time by employing a high-precision network measurement technology. The authors have developed a high-precision network monitoring device that is capable of providing high-speed drawing with low latency and can also be installed next to the video transmitting device. The traffic data was analyzed at the moment of video transmission failure. Furthermore, the authors have also examined the aspect of system development for identifying faulty sections by simultaneously monitoring the application layers of the transmission path. This paper presents three solutions: 1) Metering video traffic by employing general multicore CPU cards that can simultaneously monitor up to eight lines, each line having a bandwidth of 10 Gbps, 2) Architectural development of over the 100 Gbps video traffic meter by employing Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) software linked with the tap aggregation function of a general-purpose switch, 3) Implementation of a multilateral layer analysis function, including the upper layer. The performance of the proposed high-precision network measurement solutions was evaluated during the Sapporo Snow Festival Verification Test Event, hosted by NICT (National Institute of Information and Communicatios Technology) in February 2017. |
