Study on Quadruple-Mode Cavity-Type Filter for Mobile-Phone Base-Stations

(in English) In order to deal with the increase of traffic in recent years, cellular phone base stations using microcells and pico-cells have been reduced to smaller cells. Many small base station facilities connected to the main base station are installed with an optical fiber called a remote radio head (RRH) in order to promote small cells. Approximately half of the volume of the device is occupied by the filter duplexer. In order to realize high selectivity, about 10 to 15 stages of filters are used for transmission and reception, respectively. Therefore, to downsize the base station RF unit, downsizing of the filter duplexer is very important for next-generation mobile communication. One of approaches to miniaturizing the filter is to use multimode resonators. Among them, several reports have been made on multimode filters using ceramic resonators, but this is expensive and so is not often used in mobile phone base stations. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to develop a small cavity type quadrupole mode resonator filter without using ceramic resonator for multistage.
