A Background Subtraction Method with an Image Set as a Background Model

(in English) Background subtraction method is one of the approaches for extractingthe regions of moving objects such as people and vehicles fromvideos. In this method, every input image is compared with thepreviously acquired background model, and the pixels different from thebackground model in their appearance (pixel values) are extracted as themoving object regions from the input image. For this reason, it isdifficult to accurately extract moving object regions with respect toimages in which the background fluctuates slightly due to tree swayingor water surface wave. To deal with this problem, it is effective notonly to evaluate the difference in appearance between the input imageand the background model for each pixel but also to evaluate thedifference spatially and temporally. In this paper, we propose a newmethod combining these three evaluations to realize the extraction ofmoving object regions robust to the background fluctuation. Furthermore,we aim to improve the extraction accuracy of moving object regions byappropriately setting the threshold value for each evaluation.
