Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper proposes a calibration method for a multi-projector-based large-scale augmented reality display system. In our system, the projectors are installed on the ceiling of a large indoor space like a gymnasium and the AR contents are projected onto the floor. Unfortunately, due to the projectors, the projection results suffer from both perspective distortion and lens distortion. Distortion corrections for large-scale projections usually involve the iteration of users who are observing the result and adjusting the correction parameters. However, this step is inefficient when the projection space is very large. An alternate solution is to find the finest parameters by capturing a set of projection results on a calibration board using cameras. However, the calibration board’s orientation needs to be changed several times to establish sufficient constraints, which is not feasible in our situation. In our method, we use a projector-camera system with a “straight lines have to be straight” methodology to estimate the distortion parameters without using a printed pattern or a calibration board.
