An ultrasonic welding method is one of the welding methods of dissimilar metals. Many of the conventional methods are ultrasonic welding using one-dimensional linear vibration, and this method has low weld strength because of low vibration energy and directionality in welding. The authors have proposed ultrasonic welding using two-dimensional planar vibration by the ultrasonic complex vibration source that can individually control longitudinal vibration and torsional vibration.
In this paper, we used this ultrasonic complex vibration source to weld aluminum and copper plates as dissimilar metals under various welding conditions. As the results, it was found that the weld strength using planar vibration is higher than using linear vibration, it reaches high strength in a short period of time with small amplitude, and the range of good weld strength broadens. |
