Evanescent-wave Coupling for Highly Efficient Wireless Power Transfer

(in English) In order to enhance power transmission efficiency of a near field wireless power transfer (WPT) system, impedance matching between transmitting/receiving antennas should be kept as much as possible and its interference to the other electronic devices by leaked electromagnetic waves should be suppressed. However, in practice, it is difficult to keep the impedance matching between the transmitting and the receiving antennas because the impedance matching is quite sensitive to the position and profile of them. Impedance mismatching leads to poor power transmission efficiency and undesired power radiation that interferes the other electronic devices. In this paper, a novel near field WPT system with a parallel plate is proposed. The proposed WPT system works under the cutoff frequency of the parallel plate and resultant mode in the parallel plate is evanescent. The proposed WPT system has two advantages. The first one is the stable impedance matching which comes from phaseless nature of evanescent wave. The second one is the small radiation which results in small interference. Results of numerical simulation demonstrate the performance of the proposed system.
