Low-Input-voltage and high-efficiency boost converter employing charge pump for energy harvesting

(in English) Recently, the energy harvesting such as the electromagnetic wave energy and the thermoelectric power generation is getting more important for the sensor network systems. In general, since the input voltage generated by energy harvesting is very low, for example, several tens mV, then it is very important to achieve the high-efficiency boost converter under the low input voltage condition. In this study, we employed the intermediate node of charge pump as the switching input in the boost converter. Based on the measured operating waveform in the charge pump, we ensured that the operating input voltage range, the output voltage and the power supply efficiency under the low input voltage were improved by applying the charge pump for the boost converter. We also confirmed that the further improvement was expected by changing the intermediate nodes of the charge pump properly depending on the value of the input voltage.
