A Study of DCT-OFDM-Based Watermarking Scheme Assisted by Error Correcting Code

(in English) There are two variants for the DCT-OFDM-based watermarking scheme that retains high robustness against various kinds of attacks. One is the SS (spread spectrum) method and the other is the QIM (quantization index modulation) method. The noise caused by attacks can be modeled as AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise) in the SS method while it is modeled as BSC (binary symmetric channel) in the QIM method. In order to introduce an error correcting code to improvement of robustness, it is necessary to estimate the variance of AWGN for SS method and the bit-flip probability in BSC for QIM method from the distorted content. In this paper, we propose the estimation methods for these parameters, and evaluate the error correcting capability under conditions based on IHC evaluation criteria. Through the experiments, the advantage in the SS method such that an optimal decoding algorithm is available is seriously suppressed by the difficulty in the control of host interference include from an input image, and hence, it is revealed that the performance becomes lower than the QIM method.
