We can estimate the physiological state of a person during exercise by wirelessly collecting and analyzing
his/her vital information in real-time.
In this case, a wearable vital sensor node must be put to the person, so we need to
miniaturize it with smaller size and lighter weight.
Here, the capacity of battery is one of the dominant factors to determine the size of the sensor node, so
a key issue is how to reduce its energy consumption.
Sensed vital data can be processed at the sensor node before wireless transmission or
at a data collection node after wireless transmission, so
we need to carefully select the task allocation for the sensor node by experiment which can minimize its
energy consumption.
In this paper, we conducted experiments to measure the energy consumption of a sensor node
by changing task allocations for it.
Experimental results revealed that all information processing tasks should be allocated for
the sensor node before wireless transmission; the energy consumption of wireless transmission
is the dominant factor, so we can reduce the energy consumption of the sensor node most by shortening
the length of packets to be transmitted. |
