Coded Optical Nyquist Pulse Generation Using Modulated Semiconductor Lasers

(in English) Coded optical Nyquist pulse generation using modulated semiconductor lasers and dual-electrode Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) is numerically investigated for application to a cost-effective optical time division multiplexing laser source. Quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) signals are generated by using two injection-locked semiconductor lasers under current modulation with 10 Gb/s NRZ signals. The modulated optical signals are synchronously modulated by the dual-electrode MZM with a sinusoidal RF signal and its second harmonic component for transforming to the optical Nyquist pulses. The QPSK-coded optical Nyquist pulse generation with a repetition rate of 10 GHz, pulse duration of 12 ps, and roll-off factor of ~0.64 are confirmed.
