Pupil Size Changes During Observation of Surface Appearance
Midori Tanaka, Ryusuke Arai, Takahiko Horiuchi (Chiba Univ.) HIP2017-79
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Pupil behavior is widely studied as recognition mechanism of the visual information. Changes in pupil diameter are known to be caused by the brightness of the surrounding illumination environment. In recent studies, it has been reported that human internal conditions such as interest, memory, and stress can affect the pupil diameter. In this study, we focus on the pupil behavior during observation of surface appearance of material objects and measure the changes of pupil size by conducting the psychophysiological experiments. As a result, we found that the pupil size contracted during the careful observation of material appearance of object surface.
