We have studied thermal transport in Ferromagnet(FM)/Nonmagnet(NM)/Ferromagnet(FM) nanowires which is the basis of the commonly observed Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) effect. In order to study the thermal transport, we heated the sample using Joule heating by a Pt wire, and for detection, we used the Seebeck voltage generated by a thermocouple. By means of a lock-in measurement technique, we ensured that we only measure the second harmonic voltage which is generated by Joule (I2R) heating. Finally we showed that thermal transport also shows a magnetoresistance effect similar to the GMR effect seen in electrical measurements. This allows us to explore the possibility of a thermal readout of GMR memory structures. |
