Diagnosing deterioration of tree trunks using GPR

(in English) The authors have been using GPR to non-destructively diagnose the internal deteriorations of tree trunks. We accurately measure the shapes of the tree trunks using total station, and migrate GPR signals with an estimated relative permittivity based on the travel times in transmission measurements, and superimposed the migrated images to ortho-photographs of ground surface around the tree. Continuity of the phases in transmission data indicated the presence of a void inside trunk. To make tree diagnosis by GPR low cost, we plan to screen trees estimated to possess more than 50% deteriorated area first. Next incorporating the shapes of the tree trunks to detailed analysis is to be performed.
