We have studied to realize rewritable magnetic hologram memory using magnetic garnet which is a stable material. Improvement of the diffraction efficiency of the magnetic medium is needed for improving the quality of the reconstructed image. However, it was pointed out that the recorded information in interference fringe was disappeared due to the diffusion of heat excessively generated near the surface layer of the magnetic medium. To avoid this effect of thermal diffusion, we proposed the multi-layered structure in which the transparent heat sink layers (HSL) were inserted in the magnetic medium. Based on the numerical simulation, the effect of thermal diffusion could be suppressed by the HSL medium, and the diffraction efficiency could be improved. However, since the strength of stray magnetic field may be decreased in the thin magnetic layers, the diffraction efficiency of HSL medium was lower than that of single layer medium. This small stray magnetic field was compensated by magnetic assist recording, and the diffraction efficiency higher than that of single layer film was obtained in HSL medium. |
