Interpretation of GPR survey of subsurface layer structure of the west coast fault zone at Aomori bay

(in English) In this report, we demonstrate that GPR(Ground Penetrating Radar)survey can analyze substance geological stratified structure with high precision and is also used to detect active faults. In this study, we conducted GPR profile survey along 3 survey lines at Aomori bay west fault and 2 survey lines at Nogiwa fault in the west coast fault zone at Aomori bay, in order to understand correctly subsurface geological structure near active fault. As a result, at Aomori bay west fault, we could confirm different in reflection pattern at survey line crossing fault trace at horizontal distance of 23m. In Nogiwa fault, we could confirm strong reflecting surface near the depth of 1.0m and 2.0m at fault trace which is assumed to be indistinct.
