[Invited Lecture] Fundamental Techniques for Relay Communication using Unmanned Aircraft System in Large-scale Disaster

(in English) NICT has been conducted a research and development of wireless relay communication using small unmanned aircraft system (sUAS) since the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011. This paper introduces some demonstration experiments of wireless relay communication using sUAs. Through our experiments using the sUAS, we have confirmed that the characteristics of air-to-ground communication depend on the flight environment. To improve the reliability of the communication link between air-to-ground station, network coding and transmission power control are described in this paper.
