Space-based AIS (Automatic Identification System) is used for the purpose of global maritime traffic monitoring and safety. Compared to conventional AIS, it is possible to cover a much larger area on the ground by receiving AIS signals at satellites. In this system, however, communication quality deteriorates due to interference which occurred by asynchronously colliding AIS signals from many ships. In order to suppress interference and improve communication quality, we propose a new SIC (successive interference canceller) that deals with asynchronous signal collision using the difference of the propagation delay and frequency offset between each arrival signal. Our proposed method successively estimates the delays and frequencies in order of signal strength and demodulates them. It enables us to eliminate interference caused by signal collision to generate replicas of the demodulated signals and subtracting the replicas from the received signal. In addition, this method generates highly accurate replicas by estimating the phase noise and BT product of each arrival signal which increase the error of the replicas, therefore the performance of interference cancellation can be improved. The simulation results show that our proposed method can reduce the error of the replicas for interference cancellation, and improve the packet error rate at two signal collision. |
