Fast calculation method for the binaural sound field rendering based on the Fresnel-Kirchhoff diffraction formula

(in English) In this report, a fast calculation method for the binaural sound field rendering based on the Fresnel-Kirchhoff diffraction formula is proposed. In the present method, the calculation domain for the binaural room impulse response (BRIR) is divided into the two calculation domains by the virtual boundary surrounding head: the room impulse response (RIR) domain and the head related impulse response (HRIR) domain. The Fresnel-Kirchhoff diffraction formula is applied to the virtual boundary. When the coarse grid is applied to the RIR domain and the fine grid is applied to the HRIR domain for the FDTD simulation, the speedup of the calculation is possible.
Some demonstrations are carried out for the models in which a rigid sphere or a head are located in the HRIR domain. It is found that the satisfactory characteristics of the HRTF are obtained up to 10 kHz, while the numerical accuracy decreased at the angle of which a diffraction wave is dominant.
