It has been reported that cyanobiphenyl type liquid crystals make molecular association even in isotropic phase. In this study, we chose 4-cyano-4'-pentylbiphenyl (5CB) as a cyanobiphenyl type liquid crystal and discuss the influence of additives with different symetry and molecular structures on molecular association from the view of pseudo critical temperature and dielectric relaxation strength. Additives which destabilize liquid crystal phase have tendency to break molecular association. Dielectric spectra are measured with pure 5CB in temperature range 40-60 °C and the temperature dependence of the relaxation parameters are also discussed. |
