Structural priming effects in Japanese sentence production -- Stronger influence of voice than word order --
Ying Deng (Univ. of Tokyo/RIKEN), Chie Nakamura (MIT/JSPS) TL2017-30
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Past research has showed the effect of priming both with voice (active and passive) and word order (canonical and scrambled) in Japanese, and the effect of voice priming was enhanced when the verb was repeated between prime and target. On the other hand, the word order priming effect seems to be not influenced by verb repetition (e.g., Tanaka, 2007; Jin et al., 2014). Previous study has also shown that the priming effect is stronger in voice priming than word order priming when the verb is repeated between the prime and target within the same experiment (Deng et al., 2014). The current study investigated whether this stronger voice priming effect is limited to the repetition of the verb. The results showed the magnitude of the voice priming effect is stronger than that of the word order priming effect even when the verb is not repeated between the prime and target within the same experiment.
