Selection of Multiple Access Schemes Based on Control Quality for IEEE 802.15.4 Beacon-enabled Mode in Wireless Control of Multiple Plants

(in English) This paper deals with multiple access schemes in wireless control of multiple plants over the IEEE 802.15.4 beacon-enabled mode. The IEEE 802.15.4 beacon-enabled mode has a contention access period (CAP) and a contention free period (CFP). In the CAP, carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) is used. In the CFP, time division multiple access (TDMA) is used. To enable wireless control over the IEEE 802.15.4 beacon-enabled mode, it is required to consider how to use the CAP and the CFP. By assigning the plants to the CAP and the CFP on the basis of control error, the quality of an overall plant control improves. However, when the number of the plant increases, the probability of communication failure in the CAP increases, and thus the control quality deteriorates. In this paper, we propose a scheme that assigns the plants to the CAP, the CFP, or nothing on the basis of control error. We show that the proposed scheme improves the control quality.
