Data Delivery Method Using Street Address on Smart Meter Networks

(in English) A smart grid has recently attracted attention as a next-generation electrical power grid. To realize the optimization of power supply, smart meters are installed to customer houses and thus form the network covering power suppliers and customers. The smart meter system will be rapidly common in the near future in Japan. This paper proposes a novel data delivery method using street addresses on smart meter networks. The proposed method is similar to conventional postal and logistics services since the destinations are decided by street addresses. Data in the proposed method will be transferred from a supplier side to customers: The direction of data flow is opposite to the normal usage of smart meter networks in which the measured value of power usage in each customer should be collected to the supplier. By implementing the proposed method, smart meter network could be yet another communication network infrastructure next to telephone network and the Internet. This paper also evaluates the communication delay by computer simulation and shows an implementation model of the proposed method.
