Characterization of ship traffic flow by Principal Component Analysis and its application to ship traffic risk assessment

(in English) Analysis and assessment of ship traffic have been conducted for safe navigation environment, and AIS data is used for analysis nowadays. In this paper, a method of characterization of ship traffic flow by Principal Component Analysis of AIS data which authors developed is shown. It is possible to not only get characteristics with correlations between parameters but also apply to data generation in this method, so that ship traffic data with characteristics could be generated. A method of simulation of evaluating encounter probability between ships by the generation method is also shown in this paper and collision risks are assessed.
