A Study on EXIT Analysis of Pilot Assisted Direct-Iterative Detection for Optical-OFDM with Soft Beat Interference Canceller

(in English) This paper proposes a scheme of pilot assisted direct-iterative detection with soft beat interference canceller for optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), and visualizes the behavior of iterative detection by extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) chart analysis. In pilot assisted optical-OFDM, a linear copy of the OFDM symbol appears in direct detected signal by a pilot tone placed near the OFDM spectrum. Thus, this detection technique allows quadrature demodulation instead of coherent detection. However, pilot assisted optical-OFDM also induces beat interference. Thus, interference mitigation method is necessary. In this paper, we design the soft beat interference canceller with the aid of forward error correction (FEC), as well as we explicitly reveal a generation method of the soft interference replica for the canceller. In addition, this paper validates the behavior of the proposed iterative canceller on the basis of EXIT chart analysis for finding optimal parameters.
