Characteristics of a Folded Spiral Antenna for coupled-resonant Wireless Power Transfer

(in English) Coupled resonant wireless power transfer system has an advantage of high efficient mid-range power transmission where impedance matching should be achieved in order to realize maximum available efficiency. For impedance matching of real part, a matching circuit or an indirect power feeding with loop antenna have been used. However, a loss of matching circuit degrades transmission efficiency, and the loop antenna requires installation space.
It is known that a folded dipole antenna used in communication system has a capability of adjusting input impedance by varying radius of conductors or distance between elements. In this paper, folded spiral antenna, which is a self-resonant spiral antenna with a folded structure, is studied. Numerical simulation demonstrates that the folded spiral antenna realizes maximum available efficiency without using a matching circuit. We found that maximum available efficiency is improved by using folded structure. As a result, folded spiral antenna has two functions of impedance matching and improving maximum available efficiency.
