In this paper, we propose strongly-coupled ring core fiber (RCF) which can propagate 5 spatial modes (LP01, LP11a, LP11b, LP21a, LP21b mode). We numerically clarified the mode coupling characteristics with respect to curvature change of RCF and experimentally showed that group delay spread can be reduced by optimizing the average bending radius of RCF. In addition, we conducted a 10 × 10 MIMO transmission experiment using a RCF and a 3D waveguide photonic lantern suitable for coupled RCF as transmission line and a mode multiplexer / demultiplexer, respectively, and demonstrated that the proposed RCF can transmit 10 channels. |
