Study on Evaluation of Composite Electromagnetic Wave Absorbers with Two-layers Structure made of Sendust Particle Dispersed in Polystyrene Resin

(in English) It has been reported that the metal-backed single layer electromagnetic absorbers fabricated using the composite made of spherical shaped sendust (Fe-Si-Al) particles dispersed in polystyrene resin showed the broad band absorbing characteristics in the frequency range above sever-al GHz. The maximum normalized −20 dB absorption bandwidth was ≈29 % for the average particle size of 3.5 μm and the volume ratio of sendust of 20 % at ≈ 8 GHz. This value was broader that those for commercially available absorbers (≈ 10 %). However, in order to use com-posite electromagnetic wave absorbers in practical use, the absorbing characteristic needs the larger −20dB absorption bandwidth and the better oblique incident characteristics. In order to improve the absorption characteristics, the optimal design of a two-layer type electromagnetic wave absorber with the two layered structure was performed using the values of both the complex permeability and the complex permittivity and the samples were actually fabricated. As a result on calculation, the larger −20dB absorption bandwidth of ≈ 32 % was obtained. Moreover, the actual measurement of the absorbing characteristics was performed. Measured values agreed with the calculated values and the broadband ab-sorbing characteristic was realized as compared with the single layer type.
