[Invited Talk] Bandwidth Doubler for Ultra-Broadband Optical Transmitter

(in English) High-symbol-rate optical transmission schemes with advanced multilevel modulation formats are now attracting a great deal of attention for increasing transmission capacity. Broadband digital-to-analog converters (DACs) are key components for such high-symbol-rate systems. Conventional CMOS-based DACs have limited analog bandwidth and will be one of the major limiting factors for the system capacity. We devised a novel method to double the bandwidth of DACs, which we call a bandwidth doubler, based on an analog multiplexer (AMUX) and a digital preprocessor. We successfully demonstrated a 250-Gb/s IMDD optical transmission and 100-Gbaud-class digital coherent optical transmissions using the bandwidth doubler.
