RSSI-Based Localization Using Wireless Beacon with Three-Element Array

(in English) In this report, we investigate the indoor localization method using only RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) of signals transmitted from wireless beacons. The proposed method calculates DOD (Direction-of-Departure) using RSSI of the signals transmitted from 3 element array antenna, and estimates the position of the receiving terminal by using multiple DOD information.
Four beacon signals are transmitted with different directivity by feeding signals from wireless beacons to 3 element array antenna via 180-degree hybrids and 90-degree hybrids.
The correlation matrix of the propagation channels is estimated only from strength of the transmission signals, and the DOD is estimated by using the estimated correlation matrix.
In this study, the position is searched where the existence probability of the terminal becomes maximum, by applying the probability distribution to the DOD information.
The experimenatal results showed that the proposed method offers better location accuracy than the conventional method does.
