A Generative Model of Textures Using Hierarchical Probabilistic Principal Component Analysis

(in English) Modeling of natural textures in an important task for microscopic structure of natural images. Portilla and Simon-
celli proposed a generative texture model, which is based on the mechanism of human visual systems, with a set of texture
features. On the other hand, the texture features, used in Portilla’s model, have redundancy between its components, came from typical natural textures. We propose a contracted texture model which provides a dimensionality reduction for the Portilla’s feature. This model is based on a hierarchical principal components analysis using group structure of the feature. In the experiment, we reveal a fewer effective dimensions for a texture dataset with proposed method. And we also demonstrate how well the textures can be synthesized from the reduced texture representations.
