A Study of Effective Texture Causing Pseudo-Haptics Based on Geometrical-Optical Illusion
Yuki Onozato, Ryusuke Miyamoto (Meiji Univ.) EMM2016-103
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) VR technologies and devices have become popular to generic consumers but they currently only use audio-visual stimuli. To provide better realism for VR applications, other kinds of stimuli should be given to users. Most pseudo-haptics schemes are inconsistent between visual information shown to their users and their actual actions. this paper proposes a novel scheme that does not include such inconsistency. Subjective evaluation using several textures causing geometrical-optical illusion shows that the intensity of pseudo-haptics changes according to the textures attached to a target object.
