OFDM and SC-FDE are both promising techniques to realize high speed wireless communication systems because of their common feature of block transmission which creates robustness against inter-block interference (IBI). Since OFDM and SC-FDE suffer from nonlinear distortion and inter-symbol interference (ISI), respectively, it is interesting to compare OFDM and SC-FDE in consideration of these main drawbacks. In this report, we derive the channel capacities of OFDM and SC-FDE from instantaneous SNDR and instantaneous SINR, respectively, and clarify the range of applicability of each approach under the same spectrum mask. |
