| (in English) | The Katsuura S/X band ground station at the Katsuura Tracking and Communications Station was constructed in 2013 to provide space-ground communications services to earth-observation and near-earth space science missions operated in low earth orbit. Since it is the only station of the JAXA’s ground network system capable of simultaneous S-band uplink/downlink and X-band downlink, it provides not only command transmission, telemetry reception, and or ranging operation services, but also caters for reception of large-volume mission data. The distinct features of the Katsuura S/X band ground station include the Frequency Selective Reflector (FSR), the 1kW S-band Solid-State Power Amplifier (SSPA), compatibility test devices, and a filing function of the station parameters to establish a corresponding communication link to each spacecraft. Furthermore, the station is designed so as to accommodate future functionality expansions, including additions of a Ka-band reception capability and an X-band dual polarized reception capability. The Katsuura S/X band ground station is thus expected as a vital station to provide space communications services for a wider variety of space-crafts in the future. | |
