A Digital Watermarking Technique Based on Musical Characteristics and Distortion Effects

(in English) In this work, we propose two methods of digital watermarking that construct the stego signal with only embedded information data. The first method is to embed information into audio signal by manipulating the clipping threshold for the signal distortion phenomenon employed in musical performance based on the musical instruments such as guitar. The embedded information can be extracted from the averaged amplitude of the stego signal for the designated period. The second method is to replace the reproduced sound of the percussive instruments that obtained by white noise with the stego signal constructed by spread spectrum sequences that have good correlation properties. The embedded information can be extracted from the peak of the correlation function. It is supposed that these methods are employed at the stage of recording musical pieces or composing the digital music. Therefore, it is not necessary to consider deterioration from the cover signal. In addition, a blind extraction can be considered. In this paper, we describe the embedding and the extraction methods of the proposed methods, and evaluate the robustness against the attacks such as mixing, MP3 coding, tempo alteration, pitch alteration on the stego music signals. It is shown that robustness against attacks is not very good for the reproduced percussive sound signals, but the stego signals using distortion effects have good performance on the various attacks.
