This paper investigates the head-related modulation transfer function (HR-MTF) to find out important trends and features for estimating the monaural direction of arrival (DOA). Previous studies suggested that the HR-MTF contains significant trends and features for estimating monaural DOA. However it is still unclear where the range of meaningful modulation frequencies is and what the exact trends of the features are. To resolve these issues, the reported study carried out a geometrical analysis of the human head and a modulation spectrum analysis using three different datasets of. The results indicated that the HR-MTF in a specific modulation frequency range showed significant trends from 110 to 350 azimuth degree, -30 to 100 degree and 120 to 220 elevation degree. It was also found that there are notable features such as a significant peak from 80 to 110 azimuth degree and dips at 210 azimuth and 110 elevation degree. |
