Development of a Method for Analyzing Source Code Editing Processes to Estimate Students' Learning Situations

(in English) In the programming exercise lesson, it is expected that estimating learning situation based on the source code editing process can be automated by clarifying the relation between source code editing pattern and learning situation. Therefore, in this research, in order to clarify the relationship between the editing pattern of the source code and the learning situation, we develop a method for analyzing source code editing processes. In the analytical method we proposed, we extract frequent editing patterns from the edits that the past learner applied to the source code by Sequence Pattern Mining. Next, we investigate learning situations common to learners who make the extracted edit pattern appear and relate the editing pattern to the learning situation. As a result of analyzing the learner 's source code editing process, it was shown that it becomes possible to clarify the relationship between the editing pattern and the learning situation efficiently. In addition, as a result of learning situation estimation using the knowledge obtained by analysis, it was shown that learners' situations can be estimated with high accuracy.
