Analyzing student learning networks in group learning consisted of optional participants

(in English) As a learning form that takes the diversity of learner characteristics into consideration, we created a system wherein students select and conduct three learning methods on their own accord: “ask the teacher,” “consult with a group of friends,” and “research and study by themselves.” We introduced this system as a practicum in business information systems. This study focused on group learning with optional participation that occurs within this course and analyzed the network structure of teaching among students. Based on the questionnaire survey of learning behavior administered to students taking the course, we described student-teaching networks and determined the composition ratio of student-teaching targets based on grade classifications. Analysis results demonstrated that in a week of classes with active group learning, for students who achieved the academic goals (“excellent” grade), networks where they primarily taught and learned from other students who similarly achieved the academic goals while also transmitting knowledge to students who had difficulty in learning (“acceptable” grade) were formed.
