Several motion-detection models have been proposed on the basis of insect visual system studies. We focus on the two models: the Hassenstein-Reichardt (HR) model and the two-detector (2D) model, and select the better one based on white-noise analysis. However, since it has been difficult to obtain the analytical solutions of the stationary responses of the 2D model, we use the rectified Gaussian distribution that allows us to analyze them. Additionally, model performances are evaluated using the signal-to-fluctuation-noise ratio (SFNR). We have found the 2D model gives the better SFNR performances in most cases, and the results confirm the importance of the imbalance of the two half-detectors in a SRD unit (see Section 2.1.1), which is sometimes overlooked. |
