It is known that radio waves in VHF and UHF band can propagate over longer distance than usual because of atmospheric ducting propagation due to special whether conditions. The ducting propagation causes overreach interference problems in a wireless system. In terrestrial digital TV broadcasting systems, the overreach interferences are not easily identified since the same frequency channels are reused in other regions, and it is difficult to develop a countermeasure technique to identify the interferences. The assigned UHF band channels in the terrestrial digital TV broadcasting in Japan are almost overlapped with the assigned channels in Korea. Therefore, there are the overreach interference problems not only between domestic regions but also between Japan and Korea. In particular, the coastal areas of western Japan are easily affected by the overreach interferences from Korea. It is important to study for identifying the source of the interference to keep receiving quality of the terrestrial digital TV service. In this report, we describe our research activities of countermeasure technique for the abnormal propagation in terrestrial digital TV broadcastings. We have proposed the original technique that can identify the source of the overreach interference by simultaneously measuring FM broadcasting waves. This report shows the concept of the proposed technique and some typical measurement results. |
