Wireless sensor networks are used in many mission-critical applications such as target tracking in battlefield, emergency alarm, disaster detection, etc. In such applications, delivering the sensory data in time is a crucial issue which plays an important role in the success of the mission. Due to several characteristics such as the limitations on energy supply, available storage and computational capacity of the sensor nodes, guaranteeing timely delivery in WSNs becomes a challenging problem. To overcome these limitations, several lightweight and stateless QoS-based geographic routing protocols have been proposed. The existing protocols work well in networks without routing holes (i.e. the regions with no working sensors). However, with the occurrence of holes, they suffer from a high packet drop ratio. In this paper, we take into account the presence of the holes and propose a delay guaranteed routing protocol. The main idea is to be aware early about the hole and then utilize this awareness in determining a routing path which can avoid the hole. The simulation result shows that our protocol can increase the received packet ratio up to more than 6 times in comparison with well-known existing protocol. |
