Experimental evaluation of LTE/WLAN selection control method based on throughput estimation

(in English) We proposed the wireless network virtualization system and have done the computer simulations and experimental performance evaluations of proposed network-initiated LTE/WLAN selection control method. The proposed LTE/WLAN selection control method controls each terminal to connect to the optimal radio access technology based on the throughput estimation. Our proposed method can be realized with existing LTE networks, smart phones, and wireless LAN access points. In this paper, we implemented our proposed LTE/WLAN selection control method on Cloud, and carried out the field experiments using a commercial LTE network. As shown in the experimental results, our proposed method is able to select the optimal radio access technology in a high probability in a commercial mobile network, and improve throughput by about three times in average compared with a conventional WLAN preferred method.
