[Invited Lecture] A view on Massive MIMO and C-RAN toward 5G

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The next generation mobile access technology (5G New Radio) is expected to provide various types of services
and extraordinary improvement of system performance. Under the limitation of available bandwidth, especially for frequency band lower than 6GHz: suitable for mobile services, extensive reuse of space is essential to enhance the spectral efficiency/space by an order of magnitude higher. Massive MIMO and HetNet with C-RAN are promising technologies to achieve these targets. In this report, we analyzed suitable network architectures, functions allocation, and requirements for front-haul networks to achieve efficient C-RAN for Massive MIMO and HetNet, through the development of the evaluation system for the “R&D of 5G mobile system” funded by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) in Japan.
