[Memorial Lecture] Advanced nanoscale light sources based on photonic crystal nanocavity quantum dot lasers

(in English) The strong optical confinement effect in photonic crystal nanocavities enables the realization of low threshold lasing. Meanwhile, the confinement effect also enhances nonlinear optical processes therein. We combined these advantages within an individual nanocavity and realized nanolasers having the ability of self-frequency conversion, in which a single laser crystal supports the lasing oscillation as well as the nonlinear optical second harmonic generation. Using this platform together with a quantum dot gain with a broad spectral bandwidth, we realized a monolithically-integrated nanolaser array emitting in a spectral range covering almost the whole visible spectrum. In this correspondence, we also discuss our recent result that demonstrates a nanolaser with a very high spontaneous emission coupling factor.
