Wearable Device for Augmented Face-to-Face Behavior: Measurement via Infrared Communication

(in English) This research aims to quantitatively measure and facilitate face-to-face behavior in activities of daily living using wearable devices. In this paper, we develop and evaluate wearable devices that measure the behavior based on infrared communication and represent it with visual feedback in real time. The devices are worn on users’ forehead with the light axis of the infrared communication module aligned in the face direction and detect the face-to-face behavior depending on the communication state. In the laboratory experiments, we measured detection range and response time of the device. Furthermore, we found statistically high agreement between the face-to-face behavior measured by the device and a human video coder.
