Warmth via objects creates presence of remote person.

(in English) Many of the remote interactive systems depend on the audio-visual information. Therefore it is difficult to feel the presence of a remote person. We focused on warmth via objects as the information that acts on the temperature sense. Then, we reproduced warmth chair due to the remote person, and investigated the effect of warmth in specific videoconferencing in which the users and the remote person images are synthesized in the same scene and shows it on a display. As a result, we found that warmth enhanced the presence of the other person in specific videoconferencing better than in the conventional video conferencing. However, as for the effect of warmth, no one was conscious of warmth although we set up warmth based on the actual temperature.
