Image coding technologies have brought the most significant impact on the industry and the society when our television broadcasting has evolved to digital one. The relevant international standards were vital for this big transition. Nowadays huge amount of streams are transmitted and received everywhere, conveying digital coded media information. These media, such as video, audio, digital photography and supporting information are coded by means of international standards i.e. MPEG, JPEG, H.264/H.265. These standards have evolved and enhanced their performances and functionalities. The current activities of the standardization include UHDTV with better pictures, immersive media, new media type such as light field representation, functional support for adaptive streaming and of course further improvement of coding efficiency. Here the current trend in standardization of multimedia technologies are introduced. |
